A Line Designed for Crescala Collective

The Ask.


In teams, we were tasked to create a line for Crescala Collective. Our overall theme for the project was circularity. This project needed brand inspiration, brand concept, target consumer, eight finalized designs, colors, textiles, finishes, trim details, CLO3D elements, and a marketing plan.

Skills.

The Process.

  • Working with the overall theme of circularity, my team and I needed to come up with a vision for our brand. After brainstorming, we decided to work with circularity within the animal kingdom and nature. With our theme and vision chosen, we then needed to decide on our customer base.

  • We spent a lot of time going over exactly what we envisioned our ideal customer would be like. We eventually decided we needed to break this customer up into three different segments. We researched and spent time finding all of these segments demographics and psychographics. After this, we needed to start looking into our textiles and trims.

  • This project is in collaboration with Cotton Incorporated and, therefore, all of our textiles were required to be at least 70% cotton. We needed to provide all of the details about each textiles including the width, content, construction, and weight. Once we had all of our textiles and trims chosen, it was time to start sketching.

  • My team started out by each coming up with 10 sketches inspired by our theme. We then compared and choose our top 30. From there, we scanned them into Illustrator and began adding our colors and prints to them. These first 30 sketches were then presented to our critic. She then chose our eight final looks.

  • After we redid our final eight looks, we needed to begin on the merchandising side of the project. This included cost sheets, line sheets, an assortment plan, a technical pack, our marketing plan, and our marketing budget. These all required lots of research and team collaboration.

  • Once we had all of the aspects of our line, it was time to put all of our work together and present. We went through multiple class and professor presentations to make adjustments before the final presentation to the critics. After a successful presentation, our team was chosen to win the scholarship.

What I learned.

Through the process of this project, I gained a deep understanding of the fashion design and branding process. I learned how to build a brand from the ground up, the importance of storytelling, how to translate inspiration into design, how to create a cohesive collection, and all the technical aspects of design and of merchandising.
