Photo Manipulation
Blending creativity and digital precision
The Ask.
The project was to demonstrate my knowledge of different Photoshop tasks in order to manipulate a single image and present three unique and diverse outputs.

Using a meaningful image for this project was important to me to make it personal. Slowthai is a musical artist from the UK that has had a strong impact on my life. I discovered him through a loved one in my life. Slowthai has always told his fans to reach out to him in times of need. My loved one was going through a very dark period in their life and reached out to Slowthai. He responded that night and saved their life. If it weren’t for Slowthai, my loved one wouldn’t be here today. Using this for my project pulls in meaning and connection.

I spent a significant portion of this project exploring and sketching out concepts. As a visual person, sketching things out first is super helpful. I printed out multiple copies of my original photo and used my creativity to see what I can come up with. I used markers, paint, pens, etc. to alter the image and get inspiration. I ended up coming up with three unique options that I would attempt to bring bring to life on Photoshop.

This was the largest portion of the project. There was a lot of trial and error working with the different effects and tools that photoshop has to offer. I had a lot of struggles trying to work certain tools and effects. I often resorted to various YouTube tutorials to learn how to work different tools. I wanted to go beyond the taught tools and teach myself more of the functions of photoshop. I watched dozens of videos explaining different tools and effects. After a lot of trial and error, I finally created my 3 edits.

This project needed to be presented on a physical board with specific measurements and requirements. I needed a specific board size, image size, border size, and spacing which all needed to fit the measurements. Part of this project included documenting my process and writing out exactly how I altered each image. This was then required to be taped to the back of the board.
The Outcome.
What I learned.
Through the process of this project, I learned so many valuable skills. I learned so many of the technical skills Photoshop has to offer including the various tools and effects. This project also strengthened my skills in understanding perspective, composition, and problem-solving.
