Line Sheet
Forget Me Not Collection
The Ask.
For this project, I was assuming the role of designer, merchandiser, and sales rep. We were required to showcase a minimum of eight current styles for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2023 season for any activewear brand. Assuming the role of sales rep, I went through my line in a brief presentation over Zoom. I had to be prepared to discuss target market, inspiration for the line, company information, materials, silhouettes, and pricing.
Skills.
The Process.
-
I wanted to choose a brand that aligns with my vision and aesthetic for this project. I did research and made note of all the brands that align with my values and visions for this line. It had to be within the athletic wear industry, so I kept that in mind. I decided that the Free People Movement collection matched the vision I had for this project and decided to go with them.
-
I worked on sketching out some ideas for patterns that aligned with Free People and that aligned with my visions. Once I had some ideas, I worked on creating multiple cohesive patterns that can be applied to different flats and sketches in Photoshop and Illustrator.
-
To create my clothing designs, I did research on different flats and choose a few that I thought would be unique and match the aesthetic of Free People. Once I found these flats, I worked on tracing them in Photoshop to then fill with my patterns previously created. I choose a few complex flats in order to make my line more appealing, but that did bring about some complications. Troubles with tracing these complex designs arose, but I was able to overcome this through YouTube tutorials.
-
I then presented my final line through a Zoom presentation. In this presentation, I discussed my target market, inspiration, materials, pricing, silhouettes, and company information. To prepare for this, I had to do a good amount of research on these topics. I rehearsed what I was going to talk about and had a successful presentation.
The Outcome.
What I learned
Through this project, I learned how to translate ideas into professional visuals, the importance of brand cohesion, and how to balance the intersection of creativity and strategy. This project also allowed me to really strengthen my Adobe Illustrator skills. I learned how to use Illustrator for flat sketching, applying color palettes and patterns, and managing artboards.
